Redemption (1.35m x 1.77m)
The Story behind the painting
Gen
49:1 "And Jacob called for his sons and said, Gather yourselves
together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the latter or
last days".
Gen
49:22 " Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a well,
whose branches run over the wall."
Joseph
is a type of Jesus in the old testament, depicting the
characteristics of Christ and the type of life our Lord Jesus would
lead on earth. So verse 22 is a prophecy about Jesus that was
fulfilled in John 4. How cool is this! Jesus is the fruitful, living
vine, whose branches grow over the wall of the well to reach out to
the gentiles and give them an opportunity for redemption.
Jesus
left Judea to go to Galilee, then in John4:4 we read this amazing
statement "It was necessary for him to go through Samaria."
He knew that He will find the Samaritan woman (a gentile) at the
well, where He would offer her the gift of Salvation and she would
gladly receive it and instantaneously become an evangelist.
In
this painting the vine has 7 bunches of grapes, depicting the
perfection of our Lord, Jesus. The the branch growing over the wall
of the well depicts the cross which flows into the tzitzit. These are
the fringes or tassels that are attached to the four corners of the
tallit (prayer shawl). The tzitzit is also referred to as wings by
the Jews. Malachi4:2 "But unto you that fear my name shall the
Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings...". The
woman with the issue of blood, grabbed a hold of the hem of Jesus
garment, most probably the tzitzit and she received her healing.
Now
from the cross and tzitzit flows living water and healing water.
Standing in this water brings redemption, healing and newness of life
depicted in the painting as the garment that turns white. Our posture
should be that of receiving these wonderful gifts from our Lord.
Jesus' blood at the cross and the living water cleanses us from all
unrighteousness and we are declared righteous in Christ by our
Father.
Leaving
behind our own works, exhibited by the water pot lying on the ground
in our desert place. and just receiving everything Jesus did for us
at the cross with open hands is what Redemption is about.
The
original author of the Joseph /Jesus revelation is Joseph Prince, an
awesome preacher of God's word.
